Track repair vs track replacement

A minor misalignment — a gap between a roller and track, or a slightly bent section — can often be corrected by a technician in 30–60 minutes. Severely bent sections, kinked corners, or rusted-through galvanization need to be replaced entirely. We carry standard vertical and horizontal track sections for the most common South Florida door sizes (7-foot, 8-foot, and 9-foot tall) on the truck, so most replacements happen same-day.

Why bent tracks are dangerous

Garage door tracks are under constant tension from the spring system. A door with a bent or misaligned track will fight against the track on every cycle — eventually grinding through a roller, bending the door panel at the track seam, or allowing the door to pop off the track under load. Stop using the door if you see daylight between a roller and the track, hear grinding or scraping, or if the door travels unevenly. Call for a same-day track repair before the problem escalates to a full door replacement.

What causes track damage in South Florida

  • Vehicle impact: The most common cause — backing into the door while the car's still inside, or catching the bumper on the track. Even a glancing contact can bend a vertical track enough to cause the rollers to bind.
  • Hurricane and wind load: High-velocity winds push the door against the tracks laterally. Doors without adequate HVHZ bracing can bend the track mounting brackets.
  • Age and corrosion: Salt air accelerates rust on the track brackets and track surface. Corroded sections lose their true shape and become rough for rollers.
  • Spring failure: When a spring snaps, the door can fall fast and hard, bending the track sections at the roller contact points.

Track alignment vs off-track repair

Track repair and off-track repair are related but different problems. Track repair addresses damaged, bent, or rusted track sections. Off-track repair is what you call when the rollers have already jumped out of the track — the door is hanging at an angle or resting on the ground. Both need same-day attention. If your door has come off the track, call our emergency line — a door hanging on one cable is a fall hazard.
