Why HVHZ matters in South Florida
High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) building code applies in Broward and Miami-Dade — required since 1994 after Hurricane Andrew. Any new garage door has to be HVHZ-rated, period. Insurance companies check, code inspectors check, and after a storm if your non-HVHZ door fails, your claim can be denied.
Door styles we install
Modern flat-panel (available — call for a quote) — clean horizontal lines, urban look. Classic raised-panel (available — call for a quote) — traditional 4x4 grid, fits any home. Carriage house (available — call for a quote) — barn-style with optional decorative hinges. Full-view glass (available — call for a quote) — aluminum frame + glass panels, premium contemporary. Wood-grain composite (available — call for a quote) — looks like real wood, won't rot in humidity.
Material options for our climate
Steel (most common, best value): low maintenance, every style, treated for corrosion. Aluminum (coastal upgrade): rust-proof, premium look, based on scope more. Fiberglass (specialty): wood-look without rot, niche but solid for direct beach exposure. Wood: NOT recommended for South Florida — rots in humidity, swells with rain.
Insulation: do you need it?
If your garage shares a wall with conditioned living space (most South Florida homes do), yes. Insulated doors keep summer attic-equivalent heat out, drop your AC bill 10-15%, and protect cars/electronics from the 100°F+ summer garage. We recommend R-13 minimum.
How the install works
Our crew handles it step by step: old door removal and haul-off, then track and spring install, panel installation, opener install with sensor wiring and a full balance test, and finally paint touch-up, cleanup, and a walkthrough with you. We schedule realistically and tell you up front how many visits your specific door will take — no rushed promises.
